Wherever There’s Impressive Ratings, There’s Rain

Even though dramas like Sungkyunkwan Scandal & Playful Kiss started off with lousy ratings despite their popular male leads, with it being his last acting role before millitary duty fans were clearly excited to see Rain on the small screen again, as the action pack King of K-pop brought it big with his new drama Fugitive, at an excellent debut viewership of 20.7% beating out My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho who only held 16.6% despite it being in its last week!

Saldy ONCE AGAIN Playful Kiss has dipped into disasterous ratings of 4.5%. and with the drama already to episode 10 out 16 clearly its not gonna get better in the ratings unless a miracle happens or something! (more…)

Jang Geun-Suk To Play Another Musician In New Drama

Jang Geun-suk

Jang Geun-suk will be returning to television in the KBS miniseries Mary Stayed Out All Night, which is based on a manhwa that was written by the same creator of the Full House manhwa.

Although the character was originally described as the vocalist of a death metal band, now he’s been tweaked to be a free-spirited hippie who’s the lead vocalist of an indie band. His rival in the love triangle is his complete opposite: a perfect type of guy with a good background and prestigious education. For 100 days, Mary will have an “imaginary marriage” (as in simulated) with both guys; the exact circumstances remain unclear but it intrigues me.

Jang Geun-suk said, “Because Mary Stayed Out All Night is about music, I felt more burden in choosing it. I thought that I might be fixing my image with musician roles. [But] I read the synopsis and script and found it so fun that I was strongly drawn to it. In particular, I grew more and more attached to the character of Mu-gyul, who lives a bohemian lifestyle. Living a non-mainstream life, he has pain from his childhood that he tries not to show on the outside, and I found him very human and appealing.”

For the lead role of Mary, rumors popped up recently that Moon Geun-young was considering it, but no decisions have been made. It would be lovely to see her in a romantic comedy, though.

Writing the drama will be Goong and Love & Marriage‘s In Eun-ah, while directing is Hong Seok-gu of last year’s lauded short drama Kyung-sook, Kyung-sook’s Father as well as the inaugural Drama Special episode, Red Candy.

Mary Stayed Out All Night is planning for a November premiere.

Playful Kiss Is Deemed Inappropriate For It’s 3.7% Viewers

Playful Kiss

n the previous episode of “Playful Kiss,” Seung Jo (played by SS501 Kim Hyun Joong) and Hani (Jung So Min) drank alcohol, causing Hani to become drunk. This part of the drama is buying criticism from some viewers due to the inappropriateness of showing underage drinking in a good light.

While many viewers found the drunk Hani cute, some expressed their concern, saying,Did the producers really think that a female high school student’s drunk behavior would not be a problem?” and “I understand what the producers were trying to portray, but I’m worried that my daughter might act like this also.

Another issue was brought up over the scene in which Seung Jo carries the drunk Hani back to her house and points out her small breasts. He says to her,How are you going to raise kids when your breasts are like this? Some viewers saw this as a form of sexual harassment and were further bewildered by the fact that Hani was not even angered by this – instead, she tried to make her breasts look bigger by stuffing her bra with socks.

A viewer responded, “I can only laugh. The predictable plot and corny lines, and now sexual harassment to top it off. I have nothing to say.” One viewer even went as far as to say, “This may become the worst drama ever.

SungKyunKwan Scandal Is No.1 For Online Viewing

SungKyunKwan Scandal

Even with the actors’ enthusiastic performance, but still couldn’t receive high ratings, SungKyunKwan Scandal did receive high popularity through online TV. On September 9th, QTV had broadcast Sungkyunkwan Scandal episode 2, which received 0.91% record amongst the 20s generation females, placing it first among the 100 videos broadcast at that time.

Not only this, within the 25-44 year range for females it also reached 0.745%, also placing it at first place. The afternoon of the 4th starting from 9 there were continuous broadcast of episode 1 and 2, in the 10~20 generation females viewing was 0.995%, brilliantly occupying first place among the 100 videos broadcast at that time. QTV analysis deducts that SungkyunKwan Scandal is broadcast at the same time as Dong Yi and Giant, so there are competition with parents for which channel to watch, so a percentage of them choose to watch it online instead.

QTV’s SungKyunKwan Scandal, every Saturday afternoon at 3 (reruns: Saturday at 9, Sunday at midnight) 2 hours continuous broadcast. SungKyunKwan Scandal is a historical drama, using SungKyunKwan as the stage, illustrating young student’s dreams and ideals, to be shown through QTV online TV.

U-Kiss becomes acting-dols…5 members to debut in a drama.

20100727ukiss

Idol group U-Kiss’s members will debut as actors.

According to SBS drama ‘I Am Legend’ producer A Story on the 27th, U-Kiss will star as a five-member rock band ‘Kiss Band’ who have been discovered by a manager Kang SooIn (Jang ShinYoung).

U-Kiss is a 7-member international idol group composed of Alexander, Kevin, Eli, KiBum, SooHyun, DongHo, and KiSeop. They have been receiving hot love from nuna fans by starring in various variety programs such as ‘Invincible Saturday’ and ‘Star King’.

Before debuting, U-Kiss had the experience of preparing to be both an idol group and a band. In this drama, DongHo (drums), Kevin (guitar), SooHyun (vocalist), KiSeop (bass), and KiBum (keyboard) were cast. The name of the band that the five members make up will be ‘Kiss Band’.

According to the staff, the U-Kiss members are firmly determined to do well in the drama. They have invited indie rock band ‘Wiretap in My Ear’ as their teachers to learn about rock music, and they have been practicing acting and rock music 24 hours a day, giving it their all.

A representative of A Story stated, “The drama ‘I Am Legend’ is about women in their 30s starting a rock band. With the addition of U-Kiss, who are popular with teens, we have been able to connect the generations between people in their teens and 30s.”

‘I Am Legend’ will be directed by Kim HyungShik, who also directed the dramas ‘Surgeon Bong Dal Hee’ and ‘Cain & Abel’. The drama stars Kim JungEun, Hong JiMin, Jang ShinYoung, Juni, and Kim SeungSu, and will have its first broadcast on the 2nd of next month.

The bickering romance begins in Playful Kiss

iejqps

First stills are out of MBC’s new trendy drama Playful Kiss, which recently began shooting with its leads, Kim Hyun-joong and Jung So-min.
Although I think he looks a bit old for her, they do look cute together. Kim plays a cold, supercilious student — THE top student, in fact — at their high school, while Jung So-min looks pretty spot-on as the not-so-smart girl who has a crush on him. (Perhaps it’s because I really enjoy her spoiled princess act in Bad Guy, but I think she looks adorable even as she pouts sulkily.)

The drama’s first shoots took place on July 24 in a neighborhood in Seoul’s Seongbukdong. In this scene, the two characters (Seung-jo and Ha-ni) are bickering on their way to school, having already moved into the same house (her family temporarily moves in with his when her house is wrecked). Seung-jo doesn’t even want to act like they know each other at school and treats her coldly, to which she responds with sullenness.
Playful Kiss premieres on September 1.
