Its idol madness on Oricon!
This week KARA released their 1st original album Girl’s Talk while BEAST released their first album BEAST – Japan Premium Edition and 2PM released their 1st Japanese DVD Hottest ~2PM 1st MUSIC VIDEO COLLECTION & The History~
But sadly, neither one has made no.1
KARA unfortunately picked a nasty week to go against Utada Hikaru one of the Japan’s biggest and most popular singers who released her farewell album Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL. 2 as she goes on hiatus, throwing KARA in the no.3 spot which is still impressive and a first for female K-pop groups but clearly everyone from SNSD to Big Bang is itching for that no.1 spot that no other Korean group besides TVXQ has held.
Despite their relative unknown status BEAST faired not too bad debuting at no.6 for a group only in their 2nd year.
And finally 2PM shined bright on the charts as the only reason they didn’t win no.1 was because of the King of Pop, Micheal Jackson’s Visions DVD so that certainly is still impressive!
Just when people thought AKB48 couldn’t get any better than they were, THEY DID
In a time of recession and just the fact that very few artists sell are able to sell past 500,000 AKB48′s latest latest single “Beginner sold approximately 827,000 copies on their first week becoming their fifth consecutive number-one.
That total sets a new record for first-week single sales by a female group, surpassing SPEED’s “ALL MY TRUE LOVE,” which sold 601,000 copies in 1998. Among all female artists (group and solo), “Beginner” ranks #3 in first-week single sales, behind Hikaru Utada’s “Addicted To You” (1.068 million) in 1999 and Namie Amuro’s “CAN YOU CELEBRATE?” (828,000) in 1997. However, that makes them #1 so far in the 21st century, outselling Utada’s “Can You Keep A Secret?” (784,000) in 2001.
“Beginner” is also AKB48′s third consecutive single to sell more than half a million copies in the first week. This also sets a record for female artists, as Utada and Ayumi Hamasaki held the previous record with streaks of two consecutive singles.
It seems SS501 can count their lucky stars thanks to the J-pop group The Possible for finally making the impossible possible and removing them as no.1 “Worst Drop In Oricon Weekly History”
See when SS501 released their J-pop single ”lucky days” the boys were indeed LUCKY and made it to no.4 on Oricon Weekly Charts the thing is though things got horribly bad for them the following week as they dropped down to 151!!! (burn)
Now even though you would think that’s bad The Possible’s last single Watashi no Miryoku / LOVE LOVE made it to no.9 and shot down all the way to no. 197 officially making them no.1 on the list XD
In the end though things still suck for both them as check out the Top 5 list
1) *9位→197位 ： 188↓ ： THE Possible 「私の魅力/LOVE2パラダイス」
2) *4位→151位 ： 147↓ ： SS501 「LUCKY DAYS」

Coming in at no.2 is AKB48′s sub group Watarirouka Hashiritai which sold 38,021 copies with their single Gyu. Still holding on strong at no.3 was AKB48 themsleves with their single Heavy Rotation selling 27,520 copies. At no.4 was Mai Kuraki with her 34th single Summer Time Gone and sold 25,332 copies. After hyping up her single & releasing a pv for all the songs this week Superfly’s hard work paid off as her single Wildflower & Cover Songs: Complete Best ‘TRACK 3′ ranked at no.1 selling 146,114 and making this her 3rd straight no.1 album! Although its a single much like EXILE’s Fantasy because it contained more than 5 original songs it was charted as a album. Coming in at no.2 was KinKi Kids member Domoto Koichi’s album BPM, following his last album Mirror 4 years ago and sold 140,040 copies. Falling down to no.3 was Kobukuro with their album All Covers Best, and sold 71,645 copies. Hitting no.4 is Arashi who after a month is still charting in the Top 5 with their album Boku no Miteiru Fuukei which sold 18,448 copies. And finally at no.5 was foreign rock group Underworld (not Uverworld) with their album Barking and sold 12,178 copies.
V6′s 37th single “only dreaming/Catch” has made its debut at No.1 on the Japanese music charts, making it the 16th straight year the group has had a Top 10 single. The same record has only been achieved by two other music groups: B’z and SMAP.
The single has sold close to 60,000 copies, and has been used as the theme song to Yoshihiko Inohara’s (34) drama “警視庁捜査一課９係 (Keishicho Sousa Ikka 9-gakari)” and the “Waseda Academy” TV commercial.
It is the fourth consecutive No.1 single the group has had out of a total of 24 No. 1s.
Wow congrats to V6 they truly are veterans in the J-pop field with the amount of time they have spent in it since their debut in 1995!
Even though SNSD’s DVD New Beginning of Girls’ Generation has been out for quiet some time now and debuted at no.2 something amazing happened today as the girl’s dvd finally rose to no.1!
The possibility of this though might have to with the fact that dvd was completely sold out and now that their concert is over everyone can grab a copy!
Today Oricon stated that TVXQ is the reason why Korean girl groups could attain popularity in Japan.
On the 2nd, their column ‘The Eyes of the Editor-in-Chief’ introduced the recent Japanese activities of Korean girl groups such as Kara, 4Minute and Girls’ Generation and pointed out the majority of their Japanese fans are women in their teens and twenties.
Oricon stated, “TVXQ must be credited for K-pop and its girl groups’ successful launch in Japan. It seems that the fans have been feeling a sense of loss since TVXQ suspended all activities, so the fans in their teens and twenties are focusing their attention on Korean girl groups.”
Following this, the columnist added that, “Otherwise, it would have been impossible for these girl groups to have suddenly sold 30,000 copies of their album or have 20,000 people come to their events.”
LMAO, even though its ACTUALLY true that BoA was the first person to break down the Berlin Wall that was the wall between K-pop and J-pop it was TVXQ that broke down the wall for idol groups which helped Japanese discover the refreshing sound K-pop BUT that in no way means TVXQ fans are taking their love to the girl groups since TVXQ’s fanbase consisted of mostly older women and Japanese males in general tend to have a stronger attachment to female groups then males therefore that helps sales a lot!
This week Kobokuro took the crown from last week’s champ Inaba Koshi coming in at no.1 with their newest ans first cover album All Covers Best not only making no.1 for the entire week but selling a great amount of 290,514 copies! At no.2 was Arashi who apperently still got it with their album Boku no Miteiru Fuukei selling 32,332 copies with only 70,000 more till they hit a million in sales!! Falling at no.3 was last week’s champ Inaba Koshi with Hadou and sold 24,110 copies. Coming at no.4 was WEAVER with their 2nd mini album Shinsekai Souzouki.Zenpen and sold 15,865 copies. And finally at no.5 was Takamizawa Toshihiko with his Fantasia and sold 15,420 copies!
Even though the boys of Arashi had a good run having sold nearly 800,000+ copies of their latest album they were no match on their third week against legendary artist and B’z Lead Vocalist, Inaba Koshi who after 5 years returned with his latest new no.1 single Okay 2 months a now last week released his newest album Hadou selling a good amount of around 127,346 copies.
Arashi slipped down to the no.2 spot this week with their album Boku no Miteiru Fuukei adding 48,536 copies sold to their already high amount of sales. At no.3 was RIP SLYME who continues to chart and sell well with Good Times with 23,885 copies sold. At no.5 was foreign British group Iron Maiden that sold 13,516 copies.
After causing much buzz with their newest single Heavy Rotation it seems that any publicity was good publicity as AKB48 scored it big on the charts not only being no.1 for the week and breaking a new record but if the girls are able to sell another 100,000 copies next week they will beat Arashi’s impressive record of having the no.1 single of the year with Troublemaker with over 580.000+ copies sold.
Moving on to the charts at no.2 was J-Rock group Acid Black Cherry with their latest single Re:Birth which sold 47,381 copies, at no.3 was AAA with Makenai Kokoro and sold 45,992 copies. AKB48 has a good reason to celebrate today cause their latest single “Heavy Rotation” NOT only scored a perfect no.1 run all week but they sold 527k copies too!!!! For female artists they are only the third ones to have two consecutive singles sell 500k+ in one week. Ayumi Hamasaki and Utada Hikaru are the only other two female artists to accomplish this. For female groups AKB48 is the first.
